Drain Doser
There are hundreds of thousands of peristaltic pumps in use today.
With many applications from medical dosing to agricultural processing, there is a huge demand for a system which can effectively dose any given liquid at a pre-determined rate without wasting valuable energy... The ‘Drain Doser’ is a completely radical and ingenious way of dosing set-quantities of biological cleaning liquids into drainage systems.
How it works
The connector is attached to a cold water mains supply via a self piercing tap; the pressure from the mains is balanced out in to the unit and controlled by a pressure reducing valve to 1.5bar. At this point there is the option to fit a valve timing device such as the ES50 to allow perfect dosed quantities. After passing through a one way valve, the water begins to fill the lower chamber of the tank. Due to the pressure in the tank being greater than that in the area above the rubber diaphragm it pushes on the underside and squeezes any liquid being contained in the upper area. This ensures that when the wick is placed within the upper area it is fed with a consistent flow of liquid which can be metered to the user’s requirements through the exit hose. As a responsible precaution, there is also a pressure release valve and hose which will dissipate any excess pressure in the unlikely event of unforeseen failures, back down the drain. This is connected to the same trap mechanism as the dosing line.
The market for the Drain Doser is relatively unrestricted. This is due to the basic mechanics of the product which can be tailored for individual requirements with varied layouts of valves and timers which are already available. The successful biological bug solution can also be altered to suit a specific market such as in fast food restaurants which are known to be high fat, oil and grease areas. The capacity for liquid within the main body is 30 litres, meaning a 25 litre will replenish a unit which is running low. Since conception the device has been focussed at the lease market as the long terms profits from a pre-determined service plan would undoubtedly be higher than one off sales. The unit would require quarterly service intervals to replenish the unit, without having to take it away. This would ensure the device was used properly and the advantages of the unit would be used to full effect.
Project status
The design has a patent application pending and is currently at the prototype stage having thoroughly tested the mechanics with much success. The development is almost complete and we will be looking to complete the tooling later this year. As we have done with many other projects, we would like to invite a potential partner to join the project and take a 50% in every aspect of its development. This is to ensure that once the product is complete there will already be a distribution network in place to help boost initial sales/rentals.
