why is this website black?

Aside from looking good, black is the most energy efficient colour to display on your computer screen as it uses only 1/4 the power that a bright colour such as white uses.

A 2002 research study produced by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory entitled "Energy Use and Power Levels in New Monitors and Personal Computers" reports that "a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen." Indeed, that study reports that black screens consistently require less energy than white screens, regardless of whether the monitor is a CRT or LCD.

This means while you browse our site for hours on end you do not need to worry quite so much about the environment suffering and your energy bills rocketing!!!
